March 24, 2007Rain drops are not falling on my head
March 23, 2007My Dad has always had an odd idea concerning rain. To him, a drop of water landing on him while outside results in him quickly seeking cover to protect himself from the oncoming downpour. There is no such thing as “sprinkling” in his mind. It’s all a drenching downpour.
This afternoon I was complaining about the forecast for rain and how it never came to pass. Of course he begged to differ with me so I went and looked out into the backyard. Nope dry as a bone. Not a drop anywhere. He still told me that it had just rained. I looked again and relayed the fact, “dude the sidewalk is dry as a bone.” His reply, “really?” Moments like these throughout my life have made me want to walk over and tap him on the head and ask, “hey is anybody home?”
Of course I have lived this long by not acting on my less than intelligent impulses. Well, most of the time at any rate.
Spring anyone
March 21, 2007I don’t know what is going on but I signed into my email and found 58 messages waiting for me. Crazy stuff going on with our mountain biking forums which leads to oodles of emails between the officers and the ELC committee. I haven’t even begun to trudge through them all yet. I have answered one email, and that was to a friend whom I am trying to talk into either Kayaking through the possible Thunderstorm on Saturday, or hiking the 8 mile loop … I am game for either. What does that say about me?
Hill Repeats. Pulled the bike out this afternoon after work to indulge myself in the 77 degree sunny warm breeze blowing, more like late spring type of weather we are having. And off I went to the park to do Hill Repeats on the bike while listening to Amy Ray on the Ipod. I was listening to her yesterday at the gym whilst I did my treadmill run, and it occurred to me her music really is good to exercise with. And the Hill repeats will work in my favor when I am riding up those hills on the trail cranking the bike over tree roots and other unmovable in the way objects. I just know it will. That’s what I tell myself anyway.
Funny thing is, I had Amy Ray turned up as loud as it would go while I was putting the bike onto the car after the ride. And these two dogs, I don’t know what type of dogs, had come up behind me barking themselves hoarse. I never heard them until they were yapping at my heels. This means I didn’t react at all and by the time I had turned around asking them what they were barking about they had resorted to having the most dejected looks on their faces, as if they were totally let down that their presence had not elicited a response out of me. I almost thought about climbing onto the car and acting as if I were scared, just to give them back their dignity.
Okay I have emails to read.

March 16, 2007Tennis anyone?
March 14, 2007Yesterday was a nice warm day – 83 degrees was our high temperature. I didn’t want to waste it so I took a quick walk yesterday afternoon.
Today made it up into the 70’s before the afternoon wild and woolly storms rolled in. So for lunch 3 of us went out and played tennis. I really had a good time even though R kept purposely barely hitting the balls over the net just to watch me scuttle my way up to return them. The whole thing kind of wore me out. Of course that didn’t stop me from hitting up the Wednesday evening cycle class tonight.
All in all a wonderful almost Spring day. Hope yours was as good!

“For it is only at the scale
Of our direct, sensory
Interactions with the
Land around us that we
Can appropriately notice
And respond to the immediate
Needs of the living world.“
