Rain drops are not falling on my head

March 23, 2007

My Dad has always had an odd idea concerning rain. To him, a drop of water landing on him while outside results in him quickly seeking cover to protect himself from the oncoming downpour. There is no such thing as “sprinkling” in his mind. It’s all a drenching downpour.

This afternoon I was complaining about the forecast for rain and how it never came to pass. Of course he begged to differ with me so I went and looked out into the backyard. Nope dry as a bone. Not a drop anywhere. He still told me that it had just rained. I looked again and relayed the fact, “dude the sidewalk is dry as a bone.” His reply, “really?” Moments like these throughout my life have made me want to walk over and tap him on the head and ask, “hey is anybody home?”

Of course I have lived this long by not acting on my less than intelligent impulses. Well, most of the time at any rate.
